John knox was a pastor, writer and reformed theologian who led the way for the reformation in sixteenth century scotland. Educated at the university of saint andrews, knox became deeply involved in the movement to reform the scottish church. Rising to great authority in the church of england but had to resign from his position when mary took over as regent. He lived in geneva where he learned more about the reformed theology and presbyterian polity of john calvin.
