The Alhambra vs the Parthenon

The History of the Alhambra

The Alhambra for Arab people and for Muslims more generally is a massive symbol. In much of modern literature, it stands in for Palestine, which has been lost to the Arabs. The thing that struck me most afresh when looking at the Parliament was an early 17th century Ottoman traveller Evelia Chalabhi who goes to the Parliament when it's a mosque. She tries to cite its mosqueness in the context of its history. So it's a fantastic object lesson for cultural transitions and transformations in Greece and everyone.
