The case began on the 15th of May in 1978 in the Pune sessions court and lasted just little more than four months. The men were sentenced to death by electric chair, but they weren't done yet. They actually had the audacity to request a presidential pardon for their crimes. Their argument was that death by hanging is unnecessarily painful. And I don't think it's as simple an equation of fear outweigh shame.
