Building a Long Term Demand Generation Structure

I would like to see our demand journey as a long term strategy. And we as a team would also like to get a grip on our on track or not on the rather short term see if there's any positive signal. So my question is how would you kind of balance building a long term demand generation structure with achieving short term goals? I've found that there's a lot of confusion between the idea that short term behaviors drive short term results and that long term behaviors don't drive shortterm results.
