Dr. D. Graham Burnett is a historian of science, writer, and professor at Princeton University — and one of the most alive thinkers working on the question of what it means to be human right now. You may know him from his searing piece in The New Yorker, Can the Humanities Survive AI? — but his work goes much deeper than that. He runs the Strothers School and the Friends of Attention, a nonprofit dedicated to reclaiming the human mind from the forces actively trying to colonise it. He’s also co-author of the very recently published Attensity!
This episode captures the live Q&A from Berry and Graham's webinar, Human Fracking: AI, and the Capture of Attention — part of Small Giants Academy's Trust in the Age of AI series, building toward the Wisdom & Action Forum in May 2026.
Graham is a generous, humorous, and unguarded guest — fielding hard questions from our live audience, going deep on attention as a spiritual practice, on the impossibility and necessity of fighting back, on what it actually takes to have real conversations about these issues. True attention, he says, is a condition of freedom. That's not a metaphor. That's the whole argument.
