Ben Carlson responds an investor needs to have enough emotional intelligence to understand themselves and their own personality when constructing an investment plan. Over the long term commodities have stock like volatility with returns not much higher than T bills this means they are better suited for trading than investing because they go through extreme boom bus cycles. He says investors will be disappointed in their returns plus there are so many more speculators in commodity markets now than in the past that any risk premium earned in past decades has probably been compressed.
