The Importance of Returning to Your Hometowns
Luke's gospel says people had to go back to their hometowns in order to be registered. The purpose of a census for the Romans was to see how much money they had, Peter argues. But Luke is writing at a time when his audience are under the Roman Empire and it doesn't make any sense if he writes an implausible story.
