How do we tell the difference between a theory that is incomplete and a theory that is simply wrong? What should count as success in fundamental physics when direct experiments are scarce? Can a theory be scientifically valuable long before it becomes directly testable? What does it mean for string theory to be both a candidate description of reality and a powerful mathematical toolkit? Christian Ferko studied math and physics at MIT before completing his PhD at the University of Chicago, focusing on string theory. He then performed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Davis, at the Center for Quantum Mathematics and Physics. Christian currently holds a joint appointment at Northeastern University and as a Junior Investigator at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions, a collaboration between MIT, Harvard, Northeastern, and Tufts. His research interests include string theory, quantum field theory, classical and quantum gravity, and the intersection between physics and AI.
