Carl worked in a dark dank basement in a moldy warehouse under the Brooklyn Bridge. The workshop's rank of death and the sound of whistles of passing tugboats and other vessels was endless. Carl left wards after three years and took a position at the Milwaukee Public Museum. While there, his biggest job was mounting the famous elephant Jumbo from PT Barnum Circus.
