McCarthy is trying to become speaker. He doesn't have the votes right now. There are many moderates in his conference as well, including some newly elected ones. The border numbers started to rise precipitously after Joe Biden took office. And they hit record highs. So yes, it's very fertile ground, but it's also a unifying issue for Republicans and Kevin McCarthy.
