The Importance of Intimacy in the Age of Social Stigma
The first decriminalization of homosexual relationships in the 1960s was seen as a step toward lessening stigma and promoting sexual equality essentially. What I found with all of these activist organizations was much more attention to helping individuals become capable of forming close lasting sexual partnerships than I had been expecting to see. So what we see enduring for all of the changes is this idea that intimacy is not just a personal value or something that makes people happy. And intimacy being seen is something that everybody should have in order to be fully realized selves and fully responsible citizens.
