The Legacy of Bashar Al-Assad
Ben Hubbard: Bashar al-Assad wasn't inspired to be a politician. He says he was self-conscious about his teeth and didn't pursue a military career. After graduating from university in London, he left Syria for the U.S., where he became an ophthalmologist. "I think what you'd like to see is like any other country," Hubbard says.
