Articular Cartilage Defects of the Knee

The mechanism of injury involves acute trama or chronic repetitive overload. Impaction forces greater than 24 mega pascals will disrupt normal cartilage. On physical exam, inspection should look for background factors that predispose to the formation of articular defects such as joint laxity, mal alignment and compartment overload.
