The High Score Problem in Roguelikes
The better people do in games, the less inclined they are to play again. That means anytime you want to sit down and play Donkey Kong, you are committing to like a very long game. In roguelikes, because they are this resetting thing, it's like, if you've got somebody who's more than 45 minutes into your game and they're not at the end, that means that they are then going to have to commit 45 minutes of their life every single time they want to play the game. And I think, well, yeah, go for it.
