Hu Yabang's Protest in Tiananmen Square
After Hu Yabang's funeral, students marched to Tiananmen Square. At first it was an expression of mourning and memorial but quickly turned into a political statement because they were making demands for things. There were 100,000 students gathering in Tiananman Square; these kind of scenes were so televisual. Just the sight of these students, like petitioners weeping on the steps, waiting for government officials to notice them. These were scenes that were really noticed worldwide.
