Do Europeans Have Distilled Spirits?
There is some archaeological evidence that there may have been distillation on already in places like mexico and the northern part of south america. The equipment was expensive for europeans as well at the time. But if they did have distilled alcohol forms, they weren't widespread or produced on a large scale. And you can transport fairly large quantities of them much more easily than you can sport large quantities of beer or wine which tend to spoil. So they have that higher value in the early trading relationships of empires around the world.
