There's certainly contact but you need to look at it like that, if you think of Tibet as an enormous plateau. You can't walk from Turkmenistan or Afghanistan across Tibet because in the early times you would have wanted animals to travel with. So people domesticated these herded animals in western Asia and in the western steppe, the horses particularly, they travelled with their animals across this area to China. This certainly brought mythology to China - there was no use of metals at all in China until they reached China across the steppes. For a long time gold anyway was imported from the stepps.
