The Origins of Castles in Wales
It really depends on, you know, your definition of a castle and which sort of territory you're looking at. I would say along the River Loire, there's a chap around about the turn of the first millennium, the Count of Angers who's called Falk Nera. In terms of England, which is much more in my within my wheelhouse, as I say, the earliest ones would be the ones built by the French friends of Edward the Confessor in the 1050s. Of course, Wales takes a long time to be conquered. It's not until more than 200 years after the conquest that had with his string of majestic fortresses like Conway, Kanav and Harle
