As with most of the naval innovations after 1905, the Queen Elizabeth class battleships can be traced back to the introduction of the Drednacht in 1906. The introduction of the ship came at a point where the Royal Navy and the German Imperial Navy were in the early years of what would eventually become a full-blown naval arms race.
