Fenrir, Hell, and the Midgard Serpent
This chapter discusses the Norse mythological characters Fenrir, Hell, and the Midgard Serpent, who are the children of Loki and a giantess. Odin demands that the children be brought before him due to terrible prophecies surrounding them. He casts the Midgard Serpent into the sea, Hell is given a realm to rule, and the gods attempt to bind Fenrir to control him. They create various fetters, but Fenrir easily breaks them. Odin then seeks out a dwarf who forges a seemingly unbreakable ribbon called Gleipnir. Fenrir is suspicious of the ribbon and asks for a show of good faith before allowing himself to be bound.
