The Law of God and the Need for a Mediator
The whole mountain quaked violently because of his voice. Moses spoke, and god answered him with thunder. Mount sinai was all in smoke, because the lord descended on it in fire. So everything here was designed to say that there is a tremendous distance between god and the people because of sin. This is the way it was in the old covenant, until jesus came and heaven was opened. These distances are overcome by the blood of mediation, but they continue to be in force as a teaching device throughout the entire old testament.
