The Battle of Crete

Germany overwhelmed isolated pockets of British Australian and New Zealand troops. It underestimated the impact of enemy artillery and enemy air power. 43,000 troops managed to escape and 11,000 left behind they were taken prisoner. Just as with Dunkirk vast amounts of war material were lost staff cars, jeeps, lorries, stores,. radios, specialist equipment was just dumped by the roadside.
