The Ring System Is Unusual
In 19 80, the first voyager spacecraft did actually go past saturn. We learned more about saturn and the ring system by orders of magnitude than we known for learned in the last 300 years. The whole understanding of the ring system just improved so dramatically in a very short time,. basicly in the space of a week, that we got direct verification of the number of features that we had predicted. That's simply not the typical experience in astrophysics where i gradually develop a consensus on what nature is telling you through many false starts and over many years.
