The Colonization of Western Culture
Many institutions in the developed world have been running 24-7 for decades now. A 24-7 environment has the semblance of a social world, but it is actually a non-social model of machinic performance. It must be distinguished from what Lukas and others in the early 20th century identified as the empty homogenous time of modernity. This is part of the real colonizing force, which is colonizing Western people as much as it is colonizing other people's.
