The Utilities of Taiwan

Taiwan is worth defending, but it's not something we can't break our spear there. The People's Republic of China are deadly and earnest preparing for war. Their troops are preparing and Xi Jinping's openly talking about it. If they were doing it for people listening right now, why should they care about Taiwan? How does it affect America?
