The First Strike Against Child Labor in the United States
The first move to end the practice of child labor in the united states was made by the american federation of labor in 18 81. It takes literally decades, 19 38, for anything to be done on a federal level. Unions worked very hard to demand legislation that brought about an end to child labor this country. Striking was an effective bargaining tool but going on rike was more like a rebellion. Local and national governments treated strikes as civil unrest and often dispatched armed troops to break them up.
