The Fucking Nightmare of the New York Subway

In an opinion poll of New York City residents, more than half said crime was the worst thing about living in the city. Back then, subways were covered in graffiti inhabited by muggers, junkies, panhandlers, and the homeless. There were 15,000 felonies a year on average in the subway. Track fires and train breakdowns became very common.
