Economists often leave empirical data out of the equation. A physics background allows you to maybe look at the world through a wider lens. As a physicist approaching economics and finance back in the early 90s, that's what struck me most is that it is a philosophical aspect to the way economics and finance theories are built. Very much, actually, magic and imagining how the world could be or should be.
