The Little Arachachi
In bedegama there lived a man called silinde with his wife, digami. They formed one of the ten families which made up the village. All the families were connected more or less closely by marriage. Selinde was a cousin of the wife of babi hami, the head man who lived in the adjoining compound. Babi hami had bmade the headman because he was the only man in the village who could write his name. He was a very small man and was known as punchi arachachi, the little arachachi.
