The History of the Xia Dynasty
Everything and everything we know about the Xia and the Shang dynasties came from records written after the fact. The population of China back then was only one to two million people, all living in various states of organization led by local strongmen. They were constantly warring with each other and there wasn't even a hint of any unified central government.
