The First Amendment Protects False Speech

First amendment protects false speech outside of defamation cases. But courts are not very eager to start creating new carve outs for this protection. There are some really tragic cases, such as two people who relied on a diet book and got so sick they needed liver transplants. It's just very difficult to outside of defanition or things like false advertising. And i think there are other rationals that i think are being lost including the idea of personal responsibility on the consumers of information.
