The Politics of Reservation
There is excellent empirical evidence that reservations have done a lot for the upward mobility of Dalits. But on the other hand, my sense is instead of unhighlating cost, we have actually constitutionalized cost. And now we have more and more groups far removed from oppressed Dalits or historically oppressed Dalits clamoring for these benefits. Even upper castes as long as they show some socioeconomic backwardness are now in the same protected category as Dalits.
