Optical Point Scanning - A New Approach to Photon Detection

The light sheet is brought in from the primer objective lens on an angle, and then images that sheet back through the same lens. That allows you to get optically sectioned images just like a point scanning confocal or two photon wood. The other advantage of the system is that we have a way of scanning the sheet from side to side, and it kind of dscans that movement on to the camera. We can image up to 300 volumes per second, but still with integration times and photo bleaching rates that are far less than you would get from like a standard confocal.
