We often think about this moment of cultural encounter between Europeans and indigenous Americans as a one-way street. But why is it that we don't hear anything about the reverse? I am standing on the shoulders of other scholars who have looked at the travellers who have come from the Americas to Europe at various times. Their presence just doesn't seem to have impacted on popular views of Europe, does it? They just haven't made an imprint on our popular understanding of the past.
