The Multiplication of Time
Time is linear and cyclical, but there's always a cyclical return. How did people actually live with these varieties of time in the different methods? We turn to a number of literary examples to explore this multiplicity as well. And I think in Chaucer's poetry, we find characters who are measuring their shadows, but they're also keeping track of the canonical hours.
