The History of the Fez

The Fez was created as a symbol of modernity in the Ottoman Empire. But it quickly became an orientalist motif, a stereotype among Europeans. Kamal Ataturk launched his own hat revolution banning the Fez in 1925. It's one of those sort of lazy images that people will go to in advertising or there's kind of nightclubs that are themed around that sort of stuff.
