Wilhelm weit was born into a poor menonite family in the city of tilset, near berlin. He stole his first prison ance when he was just 14 years old. His crimes escalated so much that he was denied residency papers and made it impossible to work in prussia. After spending 15 years in prison for fraud, he decided to get a passport which would allow him to get a job. The emperor granted him a personal pardon after hearing about his story.
