The Language of the Caribbean in the 20th Century
In the early 20th century, there isn't an enormous sense that there's like a wave of people coming from the Caribbean. By 1948 and in the 1950s, though, there is a sense that this marks something different. You start to see a lot of concern about how many people are coming. And then we see the rise of very significant violence in the 50s, in particular the Nodding Hill riots. We see this form of pan-Caribbean culture starting to form as a kind of solidarity against racism.
