The first modern Olympic games takes place in 1896. Women are formally excluded from taking part in events like the marathon event. There's evidence of women taking part in all sorts of long distance endurance activities, way back hundreds of years before the Olympics begins. You know, there's no excuse really for men to say, this is beyond what women can achieve, because there's plenty of evidence.
