The March of Dimes - A History of Polio
Polio peaked in the United States in 1952 with nearly 60,000 cases. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt helped found an organization called the March of Dimes which would dedicate time and funds to researching polio. Jonas Salk's vaccine was given for the first time on February 23rd of 1954 at Arsenal Elementary in Pittsburgh. Schools nationwide line their children up to receive this crucial vaccine.
