Spotify's Strategic Moment
Spotify is a streaming music service that has never been profitable in 12 years. The company hopes to reduce its reliance on the major record labels, which currently account for 87 % of the music it streams on line. It doesn't plan on trying to convince giant stars like taylor swift or drake that they should abandon their labels and work directly with them. Instead, the company is thinking about a mid tail of axs, big enough to have fans, but small enough that big labels won't spend much time pursuing them.
