There would be no covered sewers in London for many, many years to come. There was always a struggle getting work. You couldn't just show up and say, hi, I'm here. Make me rich. The ordinary crafts were still very constrained. To the point where deaths exceeded births in London until well into the 18th century. And yet the population still grew and grew and grew fed by this river of immigrants from the countryside,. mostly poor, you know, just fodder for the slums.
