The national gallery was bombed nine times. A huge unexploded bomb landed near by, and over the course of successive days, was had to be dealt with by the bomb disposal team. That ultimately became what to day is the sainsbury wing of the national gallery. The british museum suffered severe dam the imperial war museum suffered terribly. And if you walk down the side of the tate gallery to day, you can still see the marks of the bombing,. great chunks coming out of the stonework. There's an inscription among this pock marked stone commemorating the men and women of the viena who died during the war.
