Ok, bottom line up front. These chapters are DIFFICULT! Romans 5-8 is one of the richest, most powerful sections in all of Scripture, unpacking grace, justification, the battle between flesh and Spirit, and our ultimate victory in Christ. In today’s episode, Dr. Manny Arango breaks it all down—how sin entered through Adam but is overcome by Jesus, why grace isn’t a free pass to sin, and how the Holy Spirit empowers us to live righteously.

• Repetition reveals themes – The most-used words in Romans: Law (78x), righteousness (66x), faith (62x), justification (15x). The message? We aren’t saved by the law but through faith, which makes us righteous before God.
• Total depravity? – Unlike later interpretations, Paul’s Jewish view sees sin (the flesh) as a force within us, but distinct from our true identity in Christ.
• Paul’s inner struggle: The famous “I do what I don’t want to do” passage reveals that even knowing the law doesn’t help—only the Spirit empowers obedience.
• Romans 8 is LOADED – No condemnation (v.1), all things work for good (v.28), nothing separates us from God’s love (v.38-39)—this chapter is stacked with powerful promises.

• Grace isn’t a free pass – True grace transforms, not excuses.
• The Holy Spirit is essential – Without Him, we’re stuck in cycles of sin; with Him, we live in freedom.
• We are more than conquerors – Christ’s victory over sin is our victory too.
• Faith unlocks everything – Just like Abraham was justified by faith, we are made righteous by trusting in Jesus.
