The Rise and Fall of the SAS
SAS disbanded at the end of the war, very simply, because it was felt that they'd served their purpose. The SAS wasn't really ever disbanded after the war, because little strands of the SAS actually did continue. There was a war crimes investigation team led by a man called Bill Barkworth which carried on its work. And then in 1947, the SAS name and the SAS idea was resurrected with the formation of the 21st SAS regiments. But perhaps you could also argue that reports of the SAS's death were slightly exaggerated.
