The Republican Party has abandoned any sort of pretense of ideology now, and it is only about the retention of power. The party proved that they would use violence to attempt to overthrow an election. This is wired into their party because it's one area where authoritarians have always discovered they can exercise power is violence and the fear of violence. We're not seeing sane Republican leaders condemning this in the most serious ways.
