Mexican monarchists are aware, even they look quite fondly on the colonial past. There's no way that a spanish monarch could turn up in mexico after what's happened in the wars of independence. The good news for them is there is a catholic monarchy at the heart of europe, and that is the hapsburgs. Maximilian has o liberal sympathies. He loves the m the exotic. But he's al very autocratic and conservative.
