The Role of Father in Family Relationships
Terry Chettier: In the 40s and 50s it's really women who are seen as naturally, psychologically the emotional engines of their families. The idea here is that socialization that women receive will naturally orient them to become easily very relational sort of people. But in the mid 1970s pushback from father's rights groups argued that no it shouldn't be gender specific children need to bond with parents more generally. Terry: If psychologist or reformers of post-war Britain got in a time machine and came to Britain today, what do you think they would make of the ways that we think about family relationships?
