Surviving the Holocaust Is a Problematic Concept
The idea of liberation bringing freedom and relief from suffering I think is very much off the mark when it comes to the Holocaust. These were people who were traumatized above all lonely not just in a slightly miserable sense but deeply existentially lonely. They now had to pick themselves up try and get help from international organizations with resettlement or repatriation learn new languagesLearn new skills meet new people all the while trying to make sense of what had just happened to them.
