In 1925, the US Supreme Court mandated that all clinics utilizing this method of treatment be closed. Anzlinger was an advocate for the temperance movement and became instrumental in shutting down a huge hub for bootleg liquor making its way to the United States. He opposed education on the realities of drug use, stating that it might encourage youths to experiment. It could be compared to abstinence training that is taught in high school sexual education programs today.
